Helping Boys to do Well - Introduction
Much of the debate about the underachievement of boys has been negative with a focus on the failure of boys in comparison with girls. Research shows that boys want to learn, but they often want to learn in a way which
is challenging to the confidence and authority of teachers.
Persistent and rigorous good practice in teaching and learning in the classroom will have a particular impact on boys' achievement and perhaps doubly so. The rigour of active, structured lessons helps to provide the
pace and engagement needed for boys to learn effectively.
