School Uniform
Many schools encourage parents to provide their children with certain items of
uniform (e.g. tie, jumper), and parents are advised to check the school’s policies
before admission. There is no financial assistance available to parents to meet
the cost of school uniform at primary schools.
For secondary pupils, there is a scheme of assistance which is based on
parents’ financial circumstances, to help with the purchase of such items for
pupils about to transfer to secondary school. A grant of £15 is available for the
first four years at secondary school. Physical Education clothing is expected to be
provided by parents, although some items of kit might be available, on loan, from the school in cases of hardship.
Parents can obtain further information and application forms for assistance with the purchase of items of school uniform from Head Teachers or by post from HBS Service Middlesbrough, PO Box 352, Student Support, Middlesbrough House, Corporation Road, Middlesbrough.
