Details of Individual Secondary Schools

This section gives details of the secondary schools whose admission zones cover
Middlesbrough. In this respect, parents’ particular attention is drawn to the dual
system of education which provides for community secondary schools to operate
side by side with voluntary (RC) aided schools.

Because of the dual system, each address in Middlesbrough will be covered by
two admission zones, one for the neighbourhood community secondary school
or City Academy and one for the Roman Catholic aided school which covers the whole of Middlesbrough. The decision as to which admission zone applies, depends in the majority of cases on the type of primary school to which the parents have chosen to send their child. If the child is in attendance at a community primary school, then the child will be offered a place at the appropriate community secondary school or city academy for their home address. If the child attends a Roman Catholic aided primary school, a place will be offered at either of the Roman Catholic aided secondary schools, provided the individual child’s religious circumstances comply with the admission criteria of the school concerned.

Macmilion Academy does not have a discreet catchment area and details of their
catchment area are available from the Academy.

It should be remembered that offers of places at seconday schools are based on the pupil’s permanent address and not on the primary school attended.

Copies of admission zone maps are available on request from the Children,
Families and Learning Department, PO Box 69, Vancouver House, Gurney
Street, Middlesbrough, TS1 1EL.

All the schools are mixed, comprehensive day schools.
