Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where can I get the latest version of Smart Notebook?
A: Visit www.smarttech.com and follow the links. You may need to provide your email address.
Q: What do I do if the red light is on the Smart board?
A: The red light means there must be a connection/software error. Ttry rebooting your PC and make sure all the connections are safe.
Q: How is the Smart Notebook program different from PowerPoint?
A: Like PowerPoint and other presentation programs, the Smart Notebook program provides many object-creation tools that allow users to create special graphical presentations by enabling users to import graphics files, text, clip art and other applications directly into the Notebook file.
However, unlike many of these other programs, Smart Notebook also allows the user to create annotations directly onto existing slides and then save the "annotated" slides directly into the presentation. It also allows "new" slides to be created and inserted into any presentation while that presentation is running. The Smart Notebook software is specially designed to take full advantage of the many unique features (including handwriting recognition) that are currently available only through the use of the SmartBoard.
Q: Can I use the Smart Notebook program without a SmartBoard?
A: Yes. Smart Notebook is a windows-based program that can be installed directly onto the hard drive of any computer that uses a Windows 95 or higher operating system. Once installed, the SMART Notebook program works just like any other computer application. The user can view, create, edit, save and print "slide" presentations just as with any other presentation program. However, in order to utilize ALL of the special features that are available in Smart Notebook, users will need to use the Smart Notebook application in conjunction with a SmartBoard.
Q: How durable is the screen surface?
A: The front surface of a SMART Board interactive whiteboard consists of a special hardcoat polyester. The hardcoat is a thin coating that greatly enhances the scratch, abrasion and chemical resistance of the surface. The underlying layer of polyester is practically tear-proof. The hardcoat and polyester combine to create a very durable and long-lasting surface. Moreover, unlike the laminated surfaces that are sometimes used to make whiteboards and viewing screens, a hardcoat polyester sheet will not separate or peel off.
