Appeals Procedure

In the event of parents not being satisfied with the response to their preferences, there is an opportunity to make an appeal to an independent Appeals Committee, which is empowered to make a final decision on the matter. Parents have the opportunity to put their own case to the Appeals Committee, if they so wish.

Full details of how to make an appeal will be sent to you, should the Local Authority be unable to meet your preferences for a particular school.

In 2009, appeals were held in respect of Acklam Grange, Ormesby, The King's Academy, Trinity Catholic College and Macmillan Academy for entry into Year 7.

For entry into the reception year at primary schools in 2009, appeals were also held for the following schools, Abingdon, Breckon Hill, Caldicotes, Chandlers ridge, Green Lane, Pallister Park, Thorntree, St Sl Aphonsus, St Clare's, St Joseph's and Sacred Heart

Parents can only appeal once in any Academic Year for a particular school, unless there is a significant change of circumstances, e.g. a change of address.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has published a new guide for parents on school admissions and appeals.

The guide outlines the school admissions and appeals processes: what parents can expect from the admissions system, how to object to unlawful arrangements, and how to find further information and support. Copies of the guide can be downloaded or ordered from the link below:
