National Emergency Text Service - SMS access to 999 is coming!This is a National pilot and people should be encouraged to register to use it. You need to register before you need it and this service is now available.There will be two ways to register:
From your mobile (after midday on 14th September) you would send the word REGISTER to 999. You will get a couple of messages back explaining the Terms & Conditions. You will be asked to agree to these Terms & Conditions by sending the word ACCEPT to 999. You will then get confirmation of registration. You don't have to give any other details and so it is the phone that is registered and not the person. If you change your phone number in the future, they will need to go through the process again. The Terms & Conditions explain some of the limitations because SMS is clearly not the same as real-time two-way text (minicom) or voice access. |
