Pre Assessment Checklist
If you feel a child/young person may have additional needs, use the Pre-Assessment Checklist to help you to decide whether an assessment is needed.
The pre-assessment checklist encourages you to look at the five Every Child Matters outcome areas and consider whether these are being met.
- Is the child healthy?
- Safe from harm?
- Learning and developing?
- Having a positive impact on others?
- Free from the negative impact of poverty?
If the answer to any of these is no, and additional services are required, then a CAF assessment would be an appropriate course of action. Before doing this, you should register the Pre-Assessment Checklist with the CAF Database . You should check with the CAF Database to see whether there is anyone else working with the child and also whether a CAF Assessment already exists. If this is the case, you will not be given details of the assessment, however, the CAF Database will enable you to get in touch with the Lead Practitioner who is co-ordinating service delivery to the family/child/young person.
