Governors

Welcome to our ‘Governors’ pages for prospective, new and existing school governors in Middlesbrough.

Governors represent the largest volunteer group in the UK and are selected from a variety of backgrounds to reflect the many interest groups within our schools. If you are inrested in becoming a school governor to work in partnership with school headteachers to ensure that children receive the best education possible you can find all the information you need here.

The governing body has a range of duties and powers, and a strategic responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. This includes setting targets for pupil achievement, managing the school's finances, making sure the curriculum is balanced, appointing senior staff, reviewing staff performance and pay and deciding how, in strategic terms, the school should be run.

Here in Middlesbrough our Governor Development Service provide advice, support and training for all our governors to help them carry out their role and ensure pupils in our schools receive the best education possible.
