Holy Island
This is a Category B visit. Care must be taken with regard to the crossing of the causeway – the times when the causeway are open are published yearly in advance and this may affect when you visit. A centre of early Christian history during the dark ages. The island was given to St Aidan by the King of Northumbria in AD635. Visit the castle and ruins of the abbey - charges apply to visit these two monuments. Holy Island may be linked by a visit to Seahouses, Bamburgh or Berwick on Tweed – all of these have historical significance.
